Apparently the actual quote is a little different…
From “How to Winter”:
Gandhi is often credited with saying “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” But this is a misleading and simplistic paraphrase of what he actually said: “We but mirror the world. The tendencies present in the outer world are to be found insthe world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change toward him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” This longer and more nuanced quote illustrates how, even as we are shaped by the world, by changing ourselves wealso change the world around us.
